Zharity Reusable Pad THANK YOU
Late in 2022, Zharity initiated a new project to make reusable feminine hygiene pads for those in need. Our first effort supported the Cho Ngafor Foundation, an agency that sends reusable pads to women/girls in Cameroon, and also provides education to them about menstruation. Additionally, they are teaching a group of women how to make their own pads and to share the learnings with other women/girls. Zharity’s goal was to provide 500 finished feminine pads for this organisation and we are nearly there.
Thanks to our wonderful Zharity members and participants, over the course of 2023, we:
Sourced materials for 500 pads including cotton fabric, waterproof material and absorbent materials!
Held 4 material preparation/cutting events - which included 40 participants!
Held 2 Group Sewing events at Social Fabric to include 25 sewers and assistants!
Had over 15 volunteers help to sew pads on their own machines at home!
Through this incredible outpouring of support, Zharity was able to present Doreen Bieri-Ngafor, the founder of the Cho Ngafor Foundation, almost 400 finished pads on November 4th!!!!
Zharity will follow up with a second set of pads in 2024! This amazing project would not be possible without the support of the following Zharity members and supporters:
This project also was supported by the local businesses. The Luus Muus Cafe in Egg and Cafe Rumi in Kilchberg supported our material preparation events ! And thanks to Social Fabric which allowed us to rent space and the use of their sewing machines for our Group Sewing events! Thanks as well to Katherine from Knit Sew who solely sewed over 75 pads at home!
And lastly, thanks to Doreen at Cho Ngafor Foundation for providing the pad patterns and material input on how to make these pads, so that we could produce a feasible reusable pad that will support the women/girls in Cameroon.
Thanks to all of the support for helping bring this goal to reality!
